EPA Pesticide Program Updates: March 25, 2002Pesticide Program Update from EPA's Office of Pesticide Programs, March 25, 2002 IN THIS UPDATE:
Dimethoate Cancellation Order PublishedOn March 13, 2002, EPA published in the Federal Register a cancellation order and label amendments for dimethoate end-use products, removing all residential and certain agricultural uses. This order follows up on a January 10, 2002, Federal Register notice announcing the Agency's receipt of requests from registrants for voluntary cancellation and amendment of their dimethoate end-use product registrations to terminate all indoor uses, certain agricultural uses, and certain outdoor non-agricultural uses. No comments were received during an ensuing public comment period. EPA approved the requested voluntary cancellations and use amendments effective March 13, 2002, upon publication of the cancellation order. Registrants may distribute or sell dimethoate products with residential, public area, and agricultural housefly uses only until March 12, 2003. Others may continue to sell, distribute, and use these products until existing stocks are exhausted. While this notice does affect the majority of dimethoate products, it does not require any changes to the labeling for majority of agricultural uses. The recent dimethoate cancellations and amendments are consistent with earlier requests by the manufacturers of dimethoate technical products, and EPA's approval of such requests, to terminate all residential and certain agricultural uses. The dimethoate FR notices are available on EPA's Web site. Additional information about dimethoate is also available on the Web site.
